Three things about voting this morning
(I’m in Brooklyn, NY.)
1. The poll workers didn’t ask for ANY identification despite posted signs saying what were acceptable forms of I.D. That’s not cool.
2. One of the poll volunteers was flipping out because something about her list of voters was somehow mixed up. I am pretty sure that it was just she who was mixing up numbers or where people should sign or something; I don’t think voter fraud is gonna be happenin in New York. More likely in Ohio, if anywhere.
3. The voting machine has a large face, with a giant switch with a three foot arm on the front of it. You pull the switch to the left to begin. On the face of the machine is a list of all the candidates by party and such, just like on a paper ballot. Instead, however, there are little black switches next to each box. To vote, you flip the little switch to make an X in the box of your choice. Then, and this is the fun part, you crank the big, grey arm back to the right to cast your vote. I don’t exactly know what they record these votes on (a punchcard?). But it’s kind of satisfying to crank that sucker back.
Gobama!
