No one seems to understand my neighborhood till they visit. It’s kind of an industrial wasteland. It’s also one of the most polluted places in the country, I’ve learned. Partly thanks to the polluted canal to the north called English Kills—such a rad name.

And it’s growing. If you want to start a business, this is the neighborhood to do it in. A cool restaurant would go over like gangbusters, for example. You’d have lines of black-hoodied hipsters round the block. You wouldn’t even have to be vegetarian.

And nobody claims it. I’ve heard so many arguments over whether it’s Bushwick, Williamsburg, or East Williamsburg Industrial Park. I’m not trying to be a neighborhood wannabe..I just want to know where I live.
